Hey Guys,
I was looking at our earlier posts on the how can we help our community board about the little stuff mattering, and i found a poem which i think really helps with that.
It takes so little to make us sad,
Just a slighting word or a doubtful sneer,
Just a scornful smile on some lips held dear;
And our footsteps lag, though the goal seemed near,
And we lose the courage and hope we had-
So little it takes to make us sad.
It takes so little to make us glad,
Just a cheering clasp of a friendly hand,
Just a word from one who can understand;
And we finish the task we long had planned,
And we lose the doubt and the fear we had-
So little it takes to make us glad.
That was by a woman called Ida Goldsmith Morris. I think it shows us how even the small things can count towards brightening up our day. And if we all do even the small things in life to cheer someone up, we can be happy by knowing we've counted towards making a person's day that much better. That was from a book Zoe Forrest lent me called 31 girl. I'd like to include another quote, well, a paragraph in here to help us make someone's day.
"A great place to start is in the area of encouragement. Many times when someone has done something great we forget to tell them. But encouragement is empty when it's left on the inside of us. We need to give our encouragement away because everyone needs encouragement. Author Derek Bingham describes encouragement as "oxygen of the soul" and hundreds of people end their lives every year because of a lack of it. So let's go the extra mile in encouraging those around us, not in a cheesy, fake way but with sincerity."
"The next time you think about the difference someone has made in your life, dont just think about it, write them a letter, email them or send them a card."
"When someone's name pops into your head and you're wondering how they're doing, stop wondering, pray for them or give them a call. Tell them you're thinking about them. Believe me not only will they be surprised but they'll also be grateful. There is not a single person alive who hates encouragement. We all thrive on it and need it."
"Most importantly be generous in your encouragement. Don't ration it out or be stingy with it. When someone's done something good or said something great or worked hard, TELL THEM, TELL THEM, TELL THEM! Put that cherry on top by being an excessive encourager. No one can despair from too much encouragement but people certainly can despair from a lack of it."
Well, I thought i'd share that with everyone. I think it's a pretty cool message to send out to everyone.
