I'm reading a book called The Divine Conspiracy: Rediscovering Your Hidden Life in God by Dallas Willard. I like it.
Anyway, you know the Beatitudes? (Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven...[Matthew 5:3-12]). Willard explains that Jesus' point here is not that these are standards for us to strive to but that God's kingdom way of life is available to everyone - even those you'd least expect to be able to receive it. Willard likes Simon & Garfunkel's 'paraphrase':
Blessed are the sat upon, spat upon, ratted on...Blessed are the meth drinkers, pot sellers, illusion dwellers.
It's a very interesting take on the Beatitudes, one I haven't heard before. So what do y'all think?
